Radiotelephony Tests
Any test or exam can be daunting to most people. At Aviation Training Ltd we conduct these in a relaxed and friendly environment using our in-house examiner. For all tests conducted by us you will know your result immediately.
The Written Exam
The radiotelephony written exam takes just 20 minutes and consists of 12 multiple choice questions.
Each question has 4 possible answers and the pass mark is 75%.
The Practical Test
The practical test has recently undergone some long overdue modernisation. Not only does it now use "real" aviation 1:500,000 charts and "real" airfields, there are now a series of test profiles for Fixed Wing, Rotary Wing, Glider, Microlights, Gyroplanes and even Hot Air Balloons.
In addition to this it is now compulsory that the tests are all recorded and the CAA will be sampling these at regular intervals
First you will be delivered the Standard CAA Candidate Brief and then details of the route that you will be flying. You will have 5 minutes to plot this on the chart.
Your examiner will go through the Route Brief thoroughly to make sure you fully understand what you are required to do. They will also brief you fully on how the testing system works.
You will have a period of 20 minutes to plan the route after which the examiner will return to answer any further questions that you may have on what you are required to do.
Then its headsets on and the test begins.
For those who have done the full course, it should be no different to what you have been used to in training except you are in a different room to the examiner with a headset on!!!
Following this part of the test you will have around 15 minutes of Scenario Based Questioning. These will be related to general items in CAP413 and will pick up items that were not covered in the test, for example questions about pre-departure RT for those who have done the test as a glider.
Finally, you will get your result and be debriefed on the test. For those who pass you will also be give a 5 minute "Hot Topic" presentation.
