Useful Links For Test Candidates

  • CAP413 - The RT Bible
  • This document is the core referance document for pilot RT. We do not recommend printing it as the course material will extract all the most relevent parts. It is useful to know where it is in case you want to look up anything in more detail.

  • Aide Memoire
  • This document is identical to one that will be provided in the test and is invaluable to ensuring you get everything in your calls and in the correct order. It is recommended that you have a copy of this during training sessions so you become familiar with it.

  • CAA Candidate Brief
  • This is a briefing document that the examiner will review with you before the test. Again, knowing this in advance will help you prepare.

  • FRTOL Examiner Manual
  • No, we are not cheating!!! - This document is openly available and details exactly needs to be in the test, what the route has to incorporate and what the criteria for passing is. You may want to skip some of the earlier pages as this is all about what examiners need to do to get their authorisations, but later in the document is all about how we have to conduct tests. If you review this then you will know as much as the examiner

  • Candidate Guide
  • This is a CAA guide to give the candidate details of what to expect in the test and what they need to know

  • Warm Up Route
  • This is a total 'Must' for candidates to do just before the test. Before we start the testing process we put on the headset and run through this short routine that you have planned in advance. It takes less than 10 minutes but allows me to pick up on any mistakes that you make and advise you before we start the real test. It has already saved 2 candidates who would have failed the test before they got 5 miles from the airfield and who both then did amazing tests and passed!
