Package Courses

In order to help you budget for your RT license, we have 2 'package' courses available.

Full RT Course

Our Full RT Course includes:

  • 5 Group Training Sessions
  • Written Exam
  • Practical Test
  • Course Slides Handouts
  • Online 'Student Area' to download information
  • Telephone & email support

The course is run over 5 sessions:

  • The first 2 sessions are focused on learning the theory that will not only help you pass the written exam, but will lay the foundations for the practical training. This is taught by 1 instructor with no more than 8 student.
  • Week 3 starts with a written paper. We then split into 2 groups of no more than 4 to begin the practical training. This will involve role play, with your instructor taking the role of the controller and you the pilot. The small groups makes this friendly and fun!!!
  • Weeks 4 and 5 are much of the same but with more complex scenarios being introduced.
  • When you have both completed that course, and when we feel you are ready, we make individual appointments for the practical test.
  • One of the instructors will be your examiner, so no surprises at this point

This course is normally run at one of our Radiotelephony Course Venues to service the needs of those schools and clubs. As long as there is space we are happy to accommodate individuals from outside these schools onto our full courses.

Alternatively, we can also run this course for groups of 3 or more at your own venue (although for regulatory reasons the tests must be carried out at one of our approved test locations). Please Contact Us if this is of interest to you or your club/school.

Practical Training & Test (1-2-1) Course

We appreciate that some students want to do more 'self study' for the theory side of the course and also may want to achieve their RT license over a shorter time than the Full Course detailed above.

This course assumes that you have studied the theory side of the course and are ready to take your written exam, which we will do during the first session. You will also need to undergo completion of the SRG1171. (Additional charges for the Written Exam and SRG1171 completion apply)

You will then receive 2 sessions each of around 1.5 hours of practical training and practise to cover all of the elements required by the syllabus and the tests. This will be 1-2-1 role play scenarios with you as the pilot and the instructor playing ATC.

At the end of the second session we will give you an assessment and if you are happy we will schedule a practical test for you

On the day of the test you will also receive a brush up/warm up route.

Practical Prep Course

The CAA has now overhauled how the RT Practical Test is carried out. Details of this can be found on our Radiotelephony Tests page.

Although under this new system you will need to have a SRG1171 (Practical Test Training Syllabus - Record of Completion) completed by your training organisation (unless you are doing your RT License as a Standalone where you can self-declare), before you can take the practical test, for some this may not fully prepare you for the test. This 1 hour of training will focus on scenarios that are likely to come up on the test and will remedy any errors before you sit the test.

If we feel after this prep session that you are unlikely to pass the test then we will advise you of this an recommend further training.

Please note that this is not mandatory before taking the practical test and does not guarantee you a pass, the test will be conducted the same whether you have taken this course or not.

The current cost of both of these options can be found on the Radiotelephony Prices page.
